The new Lexus LS sedan is the latest luxury disruptor from
Lexus. With the launching of the Lexus LS400 in 1990, it was clear that it was
no longer business as usual in the luxury automobile segment. The brand
introduced new standards for luxury, customer service, and owner satisfaction.
The latest version of the Lexus LS continues that mission with the
fifth-generation LS flagship sedan. Setting new benchmarks for comfort,
powertrain performance, and smoothness, not to mention reliability and
attention to detail, the brand is repeating history with this latest global
citizen that is now available in almost 90 countries.
The new LS is longer, lower and wider than the LS it
replaces. More driver-centric than ever with its premium rear wheel drive
platform, it shares many of the attributes found in the Lexus LC 500 Sport
Coupe. This results in a much more dynamic driving experience than ever before.
Instead of resting on their laurels, Lexus chose to start
from new, reimagining what their LS sedan should actually be. This resulted in
the company acting as though it was launching the brand from scratch, again.
Lexus started with a new GA-L platform that borrows heavily from the coupe but
is now 1.3-inches longer than the sedan it replaces.
With the new Lexus LS, the brand has redefined the
performance and smoothness. It's all new 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6
features technology game through the company's foray into Formula 1. Lexus set
out to offer V8-level power with V6 fuel economy, as well as a design that
minimizes noise and vibration. The result is a moderate-but-mighty V6 engine
producing 415 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque, which surpasses the LS's
former V8 powerplant. This new engine is mated to a new 10-speed automatic transmission
that shifts faster than a typical dual-clutch arrangement. And it's definitely
no slouch, ticking off a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds.
From a visual standpoint, the new Lexus LS continues its
heritage with the spindle grille mesh, this time stylized to keep with the
overall design theme. The longer and lower look continues, emphasizing the low-slung
appearance of this new four-door coupe whose design clearly resonates with
younger luxury buyers.
Inside, creating a new standard of luxury caused Lexus to
push the envelope further. From the available 28-way power front seats with
heating, cooling and massage, and its organically-shaped dashboard design, this
particular interior is designed so that the driver would not need to change
posture to operate any of the controls. If you prefer to be driven rather than
be the driver, you might take advantage of the optional shiatsu massage and
raised ottoman rear luxury seating package, which offers the most legroom of
any LS that came before it. Add to that the available 3-D surround sound Mark
Levinson premium audio system with in-ceiling speakers and the optional 24-inch
color heads up display, and there's almost no reason for you to get out of the
vehicle.
But wait, there's more: with the new Lexus LS lower slung
than previous versions, the brand offers an available air suspension with
access function. When opening the car with your smart key, its access mode will
automatically raise the vehicle higher for easier entry and exit.
