There isn't a clear answer on which Lexus sedan is better. The Lexus IS and ES differences mainly come from the segment of buyers they would like to attract. The IS a sportier sedan with less interior space but better performance. The ES gets better gas mileage and offers more passenger space. Overall, the ES is a better option for people with long commutes, especially if you need passengers in the rear. The IS is going to provide a more dynamic driving experience with faster acceleration than the entire ES lineup.
The IS currently does not offer a hybrid version, with a turbo in-line 4, V6, and V8 being the only engines currently offered by Lexus.
With a base IS model 0-60 time of 6.1 secs, the IS would be considered fairly quick. The naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 generating 472 hp and 395 lb.-ft. of torque on the F Sport Performance trims produces a 0-60 time of 4.4 seconds, which we would definitely say is fast.
The IS does require premium 91-octane gas. Lower-graded gas can cause the IS performance to drop, including worse gas mileage and the potential for engine knocking.
